    Hispanic Center

Opportunities for Spanish speakers abound in business, finance, law, medicine, ministry, social work, and translation — and Spanish language teachers are always in demand. Individuals who possess multiple language skills have a distinct advantage on the job market. Our programs are designed to help Latino students achieve their college goals.

The Hispanic Center began operating on July 21, 2020, as part of Becton College of Arts and Sciences, at the Teaneck/Hackensack Metropolitan Campus. It is made up of four academic programs:

    1. LATINO PROMISE (LP)

Latino Promise is designed to help Latino students achieve their college goals by giving them the opportunity to be successful through small personalized classes and attention to achieve their pursuit of an associate or bachelor’s degrees.

    2. HACER

This program is designed for college students to pursue a college degree in a bilingual, supportive learning environment, and the support of a bilingual staff and professors who are committed to students’ success. HACER students enjoy a small program tailored to their individual needs while benefiting from the vast resources of a large, private university.

    3. AVANZA

With the goal of helping students in grades 9-12 to graduate from high school, AVANZA assists Latino students in fulfilling high school requirements, earning college credits, and learning academic English while opening pathways to higher education and preparing them for college life.

    4. PUERTA AL FUTURO (PAF)

Puerta Al Futuro (Gateway to the Future) was founded in 2003 with the purpose of promoting higher education in our Hispanic community, enabling Spanish speaking adults to learn English and earn a college degree.
