Hi, everybody. Welcome to Fairleigh Dickinson University. My name is Katie and I'm a senior here on our beautiful Florham campus. I'm on our Quest education program studying to become a teacher. With that, I have paired History, as well as certifications in Middle School and Special Education. I am lucky enough to be one of our student ambassadors and get to serve as President of this program, as well as the President of the Education Club.

Hi, I'm Diana, I'm a senior Creative Writing major with a Minor in literature. I'm also involved in our 4 + 1 combined degree program. And in addition to being a Student Ambassador here, I'm also part of our campus's Greek Life. So let's get this campus tour started.

Right behind me is our Dreyfuss Building home to our theater, where every semester we put on two shows one play and one musical. We also have our film and editing suites for our film majors, as well as our brand new animation lab up on the second floor. I've been inside and I don't know what any of it does, but it all looks very cool and exciting drive.

This is also home to our university Technical Assistance Center. So there's a Help Desk where if you ever need any help with either personal devices, school devices, or if you're trying to you know, get that paper in at 11:59, and it's due at midnight, you can always go to them for help. And they also have a 24-hour hotline that you can call at any time for any reason. And they're really just looking to help you get the tools that you need.

Welcome to our Recreation Center. Here on the Florham campus. We are Division III for athletics. I have three roommates who are all involved in athletics. So I am here often as a fan, and our mascot is Ian the Devil. One of the things that we have inside of the Rec Center is our weight room, which is open to all students whether or not you are an athlete. We also have a dance studio. We have a wonderful dance team that puts on beautiful productions every semester, so that is really home to them.

We have our gymnasium with three full-size basketball courts, home to our men's and women's basketball as well as women's volleyball. On top of that, we also have an eighth-of-a-mile track. So run that, walk that, eight times, you're gonna get your mile if you'd like to exercise that way. We also have our pool. It's an Olympic-sized swimming pool. It's weightless, which is really going to help our swimmers and in all of their joints.

We also have our rack of racquetball courts in there as well, which have many different uses. Summer theater program go in there for singing. The lacrosse team uses it. It's really a multipurpose room that we have inside the Recreation Center. Over here is Ulysses, he is one of our on-campus staples, he points home that way down to the Residence Halls.

So right behind me, we have the Stadler, Zenner, Hoffmann-LaRoche Building, but that's a really long name. So here at FDU we just call it the "Zen," it's one of our academic buildings. So you could have classes for pretty much any major or any subject inside of that building. All of our classes are also 100% taught by professors. You're never gonna go into a class and have it be taught by a TA or a graduate assistant because we want to make sure that you're getting taught by people who are experts in their fields.

This building is also home to our Graphic Design Lab, as well as our commuter Lounge, which is just a great place for commuters can go between classes, relax, sit down, maybe print something if you forgot about it before class. And the Zen is also home to one of our on-campus eateries, "Leafs & Grains." My personal favorite was which has a lot of healthier options like wraps, salads, but also a few unhealthy ones, like some mozzarella sticks, which is usually what I go for.

Welcome to the Science Building. This is one of the only buildings on campus that is major-specific. So what that means is if you're going to have a science class with the lab, it's definitely going to be located in this building. We are an old Vanderbilt-Twombly Estate at our Florham campus. So this building was actually one of the original ones to this property, the Vanderbilts kept cars and horses in here. When we got the property they only had cars in here. There were six Rolls-Royces... All were navy blue with a maroon stripe, which is how we got our school colors of navy, blue, and maroon!

So here behind me is our mansion. While the Vanderbilt-Twombly family was staying here during the spring and fall months, this is where they would hang their hats. And here on campus, there is a lot going on. The second and third floors are pretty much all classrooms and many of them are converted from the original bedrooms that the family would stay in. So you might be taking a class and sitting next to a beautiful ornate fireplace or some original portraits and works of art that are leftover from what the Vanderbilts lived here.

This is also home to our First-year Academic Advising. So all first years are advised through this one office before your sophomore year when you are either assigned or get to pick an advisor from within your major. Here's also home to our Study Abroad Office on our lower level. The Study Abroad Office is fantastic. They try to make sure that everyone gets the opportunity to study abroad if that's something that they're interested in on either our Wroxton campus which is located in England, our Vancouver campus in Canada, or anywhere else that you want to go. If you work with them. They'll find a way to make sure that you can get there and study safely.

So behind me here is Reuter's Rock, but we pretty much just call it "the rock" here on campus. And the legend has it that it started off as a tiny little pebble. But we've painted over it so many times that now it's the size that you see today. Usually, every two or three weeks, one of our org clubs or organizations will paint over the rock, usually advertising for some kind of event. And so you can kind of just look at it as you walk past every day. And it's a great way to really know what's going on on campus and to stay involved.

Over here we have our Library Lawn. The Library Lawn plays host to a lot of our events here, especially during the first few weeks of the semester. We have our Club Fair out here regularly, as well as our Career Fair through the Office of Career Development. And so it's really not unusual to come out of class and see food trucks here brought by the campus, a bouncy house, something crazy like that. So there's always sort of something going on out here.

Welcome to the Monitor Center. This was one of our most popular study spaces for students on campus. We have a ton of locations throughout the Monitor Center for both group studying and some more quiet independent studying as well. Where that will take place is mostly in our library and the [inaudible]. These are two locations that we have within this building.

In the library, there's a ton of resources both in-person and online. We have a wonderful library staff that will help you find books that are in the library, help you find textbooks, rent out laptops, anything that you may need in person. And then of course we have our online database as well to help students independently on their own.

We have the Academic Support Center that's located in this building as well. This is our free tutoring on campus. Professors love to see us go. Students love to go. It's a great resource for everybody. And then lastly, we have our Bloomberg Lab. This is mostly for our business students, you can be certified in selling and trading stocks in this lab.

Welcome to the inside of our Student Center. So here is a huge hub for all your campus life. Here we have our Office of Campus Life as well as our Housing Office and offices of Greek Life downstairs. Our Office of Campus Life organizes our "Devil Days." So for the first 40 days of every semester, there is nonstop programming sun up to sundown. And all of that runs through this building.

The entire second floor of this building is our dining hall. So it is all-you-can-eat buffet-style, one swipe of your student ID and you're in and you can eat pretty much as much as you want. It's also home to two of our other on-campus eateries. Upstairs we have The Grill, which is mostly late-night junk food, pizza wings, stuff like that... And downstairs we have the Florham Perk, which is named after the Central Perk, the coffee shop in Friends. That's where I go every day to sort of get my little caffeine kick.

Here is also home to our Office of Career Development. They are a fantastic lifetime resource for our students and for our alumni. So they will help you with everything from writing cover letters, working on your resume, doing mock interviews. They also host a Career Fair which connects students with local job and internship opportunities in the area.

And lastly, in here we have our on-campus bookstore. So in addition to buying and selling, used and new textbooks, renting textbooks, oftentimes for lower prices. We also have a wide variety of other products that are offered from FDU apparel to all sorts of little things that you might need for dorm life, Tide Pods, Command hooks, and you know my personal favorites, those FDU hats, and mugs that really make fantastic Christmas presents for mom and dad.

Welcome to the first-year residence halls! On our Florham campus, we have two buildings for first-year students that are pretty much identical. Right behind me is Florham Florence. Down to the left is Hamilton. These buildings are going to be set up as double so it would be you and one other roommate. You control the heating and the cooling in your room which is super nice when we move in here in August.

Laundry is also free on all of the different floors that we have. One of the best parts about these two buildings is it's connected by a hallway. This hallway is for both buildings to use. With a game room, a movie room, it creates a really wonderful first-year experience for all of our students.

Another great resource that we have on campus is our RAS or our Resident Assistants user fellow students that live in the residence halls with us. They really do help to plan a lot of our programs and events on campus for all of our first-year students to really get to know each other and to be involved in our campus community. Hopefully one day we'll see you living in one of these buildings as well.

So then, behind me here is our Rutherford Residence Hall. This is one of our residence hall options that opens up to you after your first year. Rutherford is our hotel-style living. So it's you, one other person, and then the rooms are a little bit bigger and more spacious than they are in the Twombly's. So there's enough room for a couch, a coffee table, and you also have a bathroom in each suite that you only have to share with your roommates. That's one other person which I know is a huge draw for a lot of people.

We also have the Village Buildings. There are nine of them. And the Village Buildings have six-person suites. So you come in and you have a common area with couches, a coffee table, and then a bathroom off to one side that you're only sharing with your suitemates. And then it's three bedrooms, each of which is a double.

Lastly, we have our Park Ave apartment-style living, which is where I'm living this year, and it's my personal favorite. So you come in and you have a full kitchen as well as a common room for you and your suitemates. And then off to each side, you have two doubles, each of which has its own bathroom. So once again, you're only sharing that bathroom with one other person.
