My name is Kyle Cattleman. I'm an Associate Professor of Political Science in the Department of Social Sciences in History. The Department of Social Sciences and History covers a wide range of disciplines within the social sciences, including political science, anthropology, sociology, as well as history. We are spread across both campuses in Madison and Teaneck. And we encompass a wide array of disciplines from scholars who have won numerous awards, both in teaching and in service. At the undergraduate level, we tell you what we know. And at the graduate level, we teach you how to know what we don't know. So we teach at the graduate level students to become active researchers to generate knowledge for the rest of scholarship. It's a skill set that allows you to transition to a number of different professional areas, whether you want to be a pollster for a political campaign, whether you want to be a policy analyst, whether you want to work for a think tank or a nonprofit, or even if you want to do something outside of the political or policy realm, knowing how to research, knowing how to write, knowing how to generate new knowledge-- is the strength that we're going to teach you in our graduate program. The class sizes are very small at the graduate level. So it's a dialogue between the professor and the students about research techniques. What specific theories mean? How can we test specific theories? One way that we help our students acquire this is that I oftentimes I will co-author papers with students, so that they have an actual hands-on experience working with a professional who does this for a living in how to actually research and write. The students will be advised by the actual faculty. And so that's what separates a school like FDU, apart from larger schools. The tri-state area is a tremendous place to live in terms of the viewpoints, the diversity, the culture, and the job opportunities that you're going to be exposed to. So FDU has an NGO partnership with the United Nations. That is something that if you lived outside of this region, you just simply wouldn't have and so with that natural closeness, there is a connection between this institution and a lot of other institutions that you wouldn't have if you were outside of this area. If you're interested, I'd love to talk to you. Please feel free to reach out you can tour the campus. You can speak to me in person. You can even sit in on one of my classes if you'd like.
