My name is Dr. Dougherty, and I'm the chair of the department of chemistry, biochemistry, and physics. I want to welcome you to our department. Prior to joining FDU, I worked as a research scientist for a number of years. And while I really enjoyed that, I found that I missed academia. And I wanted to come back although this time at the other end of the desk was a good decision. The department of chemistry, biochemistry, and physics is part of FDU's Becton College of Arts and Sciences. Our goal is to cultivate a well-rounded student who's equipped with the technical skills and scientific knowledge necessary to succeed, and in your personal, professional, and academic goals. We are one department -- two campuses -- joined by that common goal. Our department offers ACS-certified Bachelor's degrees in both Chemistry and Biochemistry. Students wanting a more flexible program can also earn a Bachelor of Science in Science. We offer small class sizes, hands-on experimentation, and modern instrumentation for both research and teaching. Our faculty are very accessible and offer students the opportunity to do undergraduate research in a wide area of research interests. Those students are then encouraged to present their findings both internally and externally at research symposia. Students can also apply to a number of combined programs, where you can earn your Bachelor of Science in either Chemistry or Biochemistry, and then move directly into a graduate program to earn a PharmD, a MS in chemistry, MS in Cosmetic Science, or Master of Arts in Teaching. You can learn more about our faculty, staff, and programs by visiting our website. All program information is there along with the frequently asked questions. If you need further information, please reach out to either the Admissions Office or directly to the department. And we're there to help you
